Since my family first came to Las Vegas, we've been going to the same Chinese restaurant, China Food Express. It ain't the prettiest, but it's delicious. I'm sure everyone has one of those places. They make this sizzling platter with sea bass, shitake mushrooms, fried tofu and a gingery, garlicky, scallion sauce. I've been craving it and I thought I would do my own take on it today.
I used this recipe for inspiration. I found some salmon in the freezer from my father-in-law's friend who caught it in Alaska. How cool is that?
I made the sauce, doubling the recipe and adding some things I had in the fridge. Then I just poured it over the fried fish and served with rice.
Next time I'll make it with sea bass and add shitake mushrooms, tofu, and some cornstarch to thicken, but this was delicious just the same. The cherry tomatoes were fun, because they just popped in your mouth.
Yum.
