House of Wings & Boba Drinks

Our love affair with this little shop began the first year I ever went to Bakersfield with Chris. I was honestly wondering what I was going to do for days on end and so I looked at things to do while we were there and found this gem.

That first year we never got the chance to go, but we resolved to the following year. When we arrived and approached the counter, a small Asian girl popped up from behind the counter, leaving the little laptop on the crate that she'd been sitting on and calling her mother to take our order. Their menu was typical fried and stewed Asian fare, with a selection of chicken wing flavors and combinations and the boba menu was a list of the powdered flavors they had ready to mix in the back--all at a reasonable price.

This year, we were surprised by the new décor as we walked in. New tables and chairs, TV's, personalized posters, paint, and a strip of tile backsplash along the chair rail. Nathan said that he missed the hole-in-the-wall feel. A lot for them had changed and they seemed to be going strong. The food didn't change, though. And we were all happy to chow down. Even Dean.

We talked to the cashier and told her about our yearly visit. I wonder how much will change in a year. Last year we were one of two visitors there. Now they had "People love us on Yelp" stickers all over. What great progress!
