After reading about meditation on A Cup of Jo and seeing a featured article about it in yet another magazine waiting to check out my coconut water at Sprouts, I thought back to an article I read in Whole Living while on vacation called The Qigong Show.
Qigong is the ancient Chinese practice of using slow meditative movements to ease stress. Fascinated and curious, I tried it out. And honestly, it felt great. Since then I've used the series of movements to relax and recharge, especially when I was pregnant. Read more about it here, and print out the last image for reference.
As I began, I have to confess that I immediately had visions of The Last Airbender in my brain and imagined being a martial arts master for a moment. But if you're a fidgety person or have a constantly wandering mind, I felt that being able to move and concentrate solely on the movements (once you're past the Kung Fu imagery) helped to empty my mind.
Think you might try it out? Have you ever meditated?
P.S. May is Asian-Pacific Islander Heritage Month, so I'll be sharing some of my Asian wisdom and food. Mostly food.
