We've all done it, gone to a coffee shop to finish that big project...or start it. The New York Times just published an article about how that same thinking led to a study on how noise level can effect work productivity by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The study found that the noise level found in a coffee shop, about 70 decibels, is one that allows the brain to think more broadly--or more creatively. While, on the other hand, a lower decibel level is better for detail-oriented tasks.
Coffitivity, actually sparked the study above. They recorded the sounds from an actual coffee shop and offer up a coffee shop Pandora of sorts that you can play with your own music simultaneously. Pretty soon, an app with international options will also be available.
This is going to be perfect next semester. And it can also be filed under "Why didn't I think of that?"
